when I look at the heavens . . .

I am privileged I spose, to be working nights right now. I am sure some of you are probably thinking I am crazy to think this, but I have my reasons . . . and Im not willing to back down from them, so go read something else!

Just Kidding

Anyway, two nights ago, it was rather rainy/drizzly/miserable and then last night was amazing. The sky was clear, and while it was a bit chilly (just under 40 degree), it was amazing. There is something about the rain here in SoCal that cleans the air (which DOES need it very badly). And so it was crisp and clear and then while I was reading I found myself at Psalm 8 which speaks of the awesome grace and mercy of God to give us (as humans) any place of signifigance in the whole of the universe.

PSALM 8

1O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.

3When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?

5Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
7all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

 9O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

As breathtaking as the heavens are God’s glory exceeds it by factors of hundreds if not thousands or millions!! And then on top of it we see where King David (who wrote this Psalm) is totally blown away by what he sees. In the great sea of the heavens, with all the stars and planets and just the overwhelming grandour of it all, man is quite literally nothing. And yet we have been given the charge to be ruler and master of it all. To be THE highest creature in this realm.

Isnt it humbling? Should we not also break out in great anthems of praise and honor for what God has done for us?

Standing in the parking lot at work, looking up into the sky there arent nearly as many visible stars as there are back home. But those that are still there impessed me so much more after encountering this passage.
