it is over . . .

the era of the long hair with a slight curl in it is gone due to the requirements of my summer position, so it was not like I wanted to rid you all of the golden locks . . . they just had to go in order to grant my return to school this next fall.

So I shall attempt to narrate the process here with pictures . . .

right after the first little swipe . . . across the forehead

We decided that it was rather windy outside so we moved into our shed for the evening of haircutting, and here you can maybe see that I am missing just a bit of the “bangs” that I had . . .

my new look . . . for about two minutes . . .

Here was the very quick version of the haircut, nothing much was taken off and there is still most of if left. But I have this suspicion that it is still not enough. From what my parents said I was looking like I fit in some old movie they had recently watched . . . european I am sure . . .

the stylist himself . . .

Here is my brother getting into it all, it actually didnt take all that long to do what he did . . . but is sure was obvious when he was done.

the other cutter . . . yeah, this was a multiple stylist cut

This is my Mom getting in on some of the action. In this particular shot she was trying to illustrate the idea for my brother . . . who was distracted on the phone at the same time . . . so I dont really expect to much of it to have stuck.

dont I look thrilled?

So I was making faces at the camera and this one got caught . . . notice also that here you are beginning to see where they are going with the cut. On the left side of the picture my hair is nearly invisible!

co-op cuts?

Here my brother was trying to help me out by showing me what they were doing . . .some help is really is when they are mainly cutting on the back of my head . . .

the counsel of the wise . . .

This was the audience that turned out for the night, my brother here seems to be taking a poll of what my Dad thinks.

so is it even?

Not to sure of what all they had done so far I attempt to check how even it was . . . result: not very!

what about the back?

So far they like what they have done, but there is a slight problem . . . what do we do with the back . . . there is soooo much hair there!!

he had an idea . . .

not being one to just stare at the problem Reuben just jumps into it . . . hoping that it will be ok . . . deciding part of the way through that if it all comes out bad we can just go with the buzz cut and solve all the hair problems I might have for the next two years or so 🙂

Mom is ready to try too!!

Mom saves the day and starts to work with it, but still doesnt like it too awful much. By about this point I am sitting there thinking . . . “what was wrong with just cutting off about two inches and leaving the rest?”

and then the professional steps in . . .

Finally Dad decides that since no one is taking his advice and with him being the professional to take the reigns and just show them all how it is done. To solve the puffy hair at the back he took in some thinning shears and shaped it up right pretty like. Well at least thats what he said . . .

solving other issues . . .

Here he is attacking the back of my neck . . . well I guess not really but it felt like it . . .

a final consultation

A discussion of the finer points of the cut and I am feeling like I am amost done . . . then the release from the stool and I am finished!!! Wow . . . its kinda crazy that in something like half and hour I can lose most of the hair that took a year to grow out . . . sad times . . . oh well . . . I can try again next year!!

as I stand today . . . feeling bald . .

And this is what the final result turned out to be. It appears a little frizzy or whatever but after the shower it calmed down and is at least generally presentable in its present form . . . although this moring Mom said she wanted to trim it up a little . . . somthing about evening it all up . . . oh well. I guess the main saga of the hair is over and there is nothing more to say about it at the present time.

I hope to have a picture of myself in uniform with this new cut for all the Amos fans to print out and post on their walls . . . but I have to make the appointment with the photographer and he is like super busy, so it might be a week or so. But hang in there, it will appear sometime!!

  1. And all the hair is gone. Nice little photo-documentary there buddy.
Every time I come to your site I’m drawn in by the niceness of WordPress. And then I’m reminded I don’t have the time to set one up yet. *sigh* Maybe when I get back.

So, the older daughter of my pastor who’s here for the summer got interested when I mentioned something about your semester in Israel. She was curious about costs. And I see according to the website that it costs what a “normal semester” cost, but what does that really mean? Could you send me a rough cost estimate?

And don’t worry, at our age the hair still grows back.

  2. Amos, my brother, that was a very entertaining post and an interesting slideshow of the shearing of your golden mane! 😉 Who would have thought a Nebraskan garage haircut could be diversionary material?

Hey; I’m praying for your steadfastness in the Lord, brother. Thanks for the post!
